BOB PLACAKTiburon artist Graciela Placak’s exhibit ‘Gracielaism’ runs through Dec. 22 upstairs at Tiburon Town Hall.

As much as Graciela Placak loves to paint, she refuses to do one kind of it: plein air painting. The first time Placak ventured outdoors to paint, she tripped and broke a toe. The second time, she set up her easel at Shoreline Park on Opening Day on the Bay. The weather was warm and sunny, and the painting was going well until the lawn sprinklers came on. Both she and her oil painting were soaked before she could get out of range. She says she won’t try a third time.

Despite her aversion to plein air, Placak, 64, says she was born to paint. Raised in Colombia in a family crowded with exceptional artists, she was encouraged to hone her creative skills.

That studio is now overflowing with works for her exhibit upstairs at Tiburon Town Hall. The show, titled “Gracielaism,” runs today, Nov. 4, through Dec. 22, with an artist reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 10.
