Tiburon recruits residents to tackle sea rise solutions

More than two-dozen residents discussed how sea-level rise could impact Tiburon over the next couple of decades at a virtual forum intended to help shape the town’s long-term planning and development. The March 2 forum was hosted by consulting firm O’Rourke & Associates, which has been tasked with updating Tiburon’s General Plan, designed to lay out the next 20 years of local policies on land use, housing, parks and open space, transportation and more. The public forum was the first in a series the consulting firm plans on hosting to gather comments about the elements of the plan update, which is expected to take about two years to complete. Several areas of Tiburon are vulnerable to sea rise over the next several decades, including downtown Tiburon, Blackie’s Pasture, The Cove Shopping Center and the Bel Aire neighborhood. “Imagine sitting at Salt & Pepper (restaurant on Main Street) and having to roll up your pants to have food outside,” said Deeksha Rawat of planning and design firm WRT, one of the subconsultants working for O’Rourke and Associates.
