Strawberry Recreation won’t put special tax on November ballot


The Strawberry Recreation District has decided against placing a special tax to help fund its proposed community center on the November ballot — but it hasn’t ruled out seeking public financing in a future election. At the district board’s July 10 meeting, Chair Cale Nichols said a board subcommittee had walked through the logistics of going to voters with a parcel tax or bond measure and was recommending the board hold off and instead target the June 2019 ballot if it ultimately decides it wants to pursue a voter-backed measure. “We should lay low right now, keep working on what our funding strategies are going to be, how we’re going to raise money in other ways,” Nichols said.
