Tamalpais Union High School District OKs $2.8 million in budget cuts

The Tamalpais Union High School District will make $2.8 million in cuts from its 2019-2020 budget — including laying off three librarians, eliminating its community-education program and reducing its athletic-team budgets — in an effort to curb chronic deficit spending that threatens to leave the district insolvent by mid-2021. The reductions, unanimously approved by the district’s board of directors on Feb. 26, don’t extend to the district’s academic programs, though class sizes are expected to increase slightly. They also largely spare the district’s popular wellness programs, though some counseling services will be reduced under the plan.
