Gray whale sighting off Belvedere sparks excitement, concern

Many Tiburon Peninsula residents were thrilled with the sight of a gray whale spouting off Belvedere shores last week, but the sighting raised concerns it might be lost or in distress. The adult whale was first spotted off of Cavallo Point in Sausalito Feb. 19 and lingered for several days off the Tiburon Peninsula, according Bill Keener, a cetacean expert and research associate at the Marine Mammal Center who was tracking its movements.
