Candidates are locked in for election in November

Competitive races for both the Belvedere City and Tiburon Town councils are set for the upcoming election, as challengers will seek to oust incumbents on both boards on the Nov. 8 ballot.

In Belvedere, four candidates will vie for two four-year seats, with residents Brian Davis, Jane Cooper and Richard Snyder looking to unseat incumbent Peter Mark. There’s also a race for the one two-year seat on the board, with Mayor Sally Wilkinson set to square off against Carolyn Lund, a former member of the city’s Parks, Open Spaces and Lanes Committee.

Tiburon will host a four-way race for three four-year seats, with incumbents Jon Welner, Jack Ryan and Alice Fredericks looking to hold off a challenge from Parks, Open Spaces and Trails Commissioner Isaac Nikfar.

With the filing period for the election now closed, the Tiburon and Belvedere races are two of several competitive contests set for Nov. 8, including races for the Southern Marin and Tiburon fire protection district boards and the Reed Union, Mill Valley and Tamalpais Union High school district boards.

However, other contests, including for the local sanitary district boards, remained non-competitive as the final Aug. 17 filing deadline for challengers passed, meaning the candidates in those races will skip the formality of an election and be appointed to their seats by default.
