Cinelounge brings silver screen back to Tiburon’s Main Street

Annie Connors of Greenbrae and Christopher Kress of Tiburon await the start of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ on Aug. 12 as the first patrons at Cinelounge Tiburon, the movie theater that took over the old Tiburon Playhouse site on Main Street, which had its soft opening while it waits on the county for its permit to serve food. It’s lights, camera, action for downtown Tiburon’s revamped movie theater. Cinelounge Tiburon held its soft opening in the old Tiburon Playhouse space on Aug. 12 and is currently offering cinephiles screenings of “Top Gun: Maverick,” the Tom Cruise-led legacy sequel to the 1986 hit movie; “Bullet Train,” an action-thriller starring Brad Pitt; and the 2020 indie film “Gossamer Folds,” starring Jackson Robert Scott and Alexandra Grey.

The theater had originally hoped to hold its soft opening in mid-July, but that was delayed as it needed more time to prepare for guests. Though the theater is still waiting on its permit to serve food, it has brought the silver screen back to Main Street for the first time since 2020, when the Playhouse shuttered its doors, citing the effects of the pandemic on business.

General admission tickets are $19.59, in honor of the founding year of the Tiburon Playhouse, and $10 for members, who can join under four tiers offering various perks.
