Locals show off talents in ‘Love Letters to Belvedere’

Despite some of the current issues dividing the city — including the proposed redevelopment of the Mallard Pointe housing complex and the proposed multimillion-dollar road-and-seawall infrastructure project — Belvedere still knows how to have fun.

That was evident the recent “Love Letters to Belvedere” talent showcase organized by 2021 Citizen of the Year Adam Gavzer. The well-constructed evening of entertainment included songs, dances and skits telling a loose history of Belvedere, plus video interviews of its residents and slides of artistic and gorgeous views of Belvedere during colorful sunsets by Jesse Miller.

Gavzer created the show with expertise. He is a former actor, current real-estate agent and super Belvedere booster, with many ideas on how to make the city better as well as how to have fun. The show, co-produced by Planning Commissioner Kevin Burke, was well-paced, mixing 24 acts with slapstick — Gavzer’s own — plus history and audience involvement.

Recordings of several versions of “You Made Me Love You,” sung by the likes of Judy Garland, Anne Murray, Al Jolson and Nat King Cole played as the audience sat down Sept. 3 at Belvedere Community Park, where many brought food and drink to celebrate the warm evening during a heat wave that did not impact Belvedere as much as other Bay Area locales.
