Much of Tiburon Peninsula still lags in getting vaccine

Marin’s public-health chief now recommends all residents avoid indoor social gatherings as the Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to spread in Marin, federal health officials consider a return to masking for all and experts suggest older and immunocompromised Americans may need a vaccine booster.

Meanwhile, northern Tiburon, Belvedere and Strawberry remain islands for some of the lowest vaccination rates in Marin, barely meeting county targets. Countywide, some 92.9 percent of eligible residents have received at least their first dose of the vaccine, with Dr. Matt Willis saying in his now-monthly briefing to the Marin Board of Supervisors July 20 that every community is within 10 percent of that average, or at least 83.6 percent.

For the three peninsula communities, about 85 percent of eligible residents have received at least their first dose, slightly above the targeted low. They’re surrounded by communities with rates of 89 percent in Sausalito; over 93 percent in Mill Valley and in Tiburon south of Trestle Glen Boulevard; over 95 percent in Corte Madera; and over 98 percent in Larkspur.
