Tiburon Diversity Inclusion Task Force members say they’re being sidelined

Several residents and a majority of the at-large members of Tiburon’s Diversity Inclusion Task Force blasted town leadership last week, accusing officials of “status-quo culture” by shutting out the committee on the decision to promote the police captain to chief, excluding it on work with consultants and dragging their feet on forming a police advisory board.

“I’m really disappointed with how we’re being treated as a task force,” at-large member Karen Carrera said at its Feb. 8 meeting.

The critique began immediately in the public-comment period to start the meeting. At the crux of most concerns was an assertion that the five appointed public members of the 10-member board have been sidelined on important decisions, while the five Town Council members “are advising themselves” and generally turning over too much power to Town Manager Greg Chanis.
