When Renée Rivera was a kid, she loved to wear headbands, but they always were so tight they gave her a headache. Now the Tiburon resident has her own hair-accessories business, Renée Rivera Couture, and her best-selling items are headbands she touts as being so comfortable they’ll never cause one.

While her Ark Row studio is new, her local foothold isn’t. Rivera has run a successful design studio from Chestnut Street in San Francisco’s Marina district for the past 32 years, but the building was recently sold. Although she was invited to stay on, she opted to start again closer to home when she learned it was to eventually be turned into apartments. She opened the downtown Tiburon shop at 76 Main St. on June 1.
