Tiburon sets fix-it list for steps, lanes and paths
Tiburon is planning improvements to a lengthy list of steps, lanes and paths frequently used by kids traveling to and from schools and that connect neighborhoods to downtown and transit services, as well as to each other.
Members of the Tiburon Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission recently completed a detailed inventory of neighborhood pedestrian and bicycle routes with their condition, type of construction and surface, accessibility, visible damage, visible utilities, steepness and entry and exit points.
With the assistance of the Public Works Department, the commission ranked, and at its July meeting approved 5-0, the list for repair priorities.
Commissioner Angela McInerney and fellow Commissioner Liz Judge carried out the inventory by methodically traveling every pedestrian stairway, lane and path within the town limits over a period of about two months; Judge credited McInerney with most of the legwork and report work.
Altogether, the committee studied nearly 20 routes throughout town. For all routes, the committee recommended better and more visible signs indicating they’re public rights of way.
“Some of the paths are well marked, but they’re using a brown sign, which blends in really great, but if you’re not familiar with the path or where to find it,” it can be hard to find them, McInerney told the commission.
