Gray whale found off Tiburon died of malnourishment, experts say

Scientists from the Marine Mammal Center say a young whale found floating off Belvedere Cove on March 10 died of severe malnutrition. Just two days after residents spotted several gray whales surfacing and spouting off the tip of the Tiburon Peninsula, one of the whales — a 1-year-old, 23-foot female — was reported dead, floating in Racoon Strait between Tiburon and Angel Island before settling in Belvedere Cove.
