Belvedere approves 5% hike in garbage and recycling rates

Belvedere residents will pay more for garbage and recycling services starting next month.

The City Council voted unanimously at its June 12 meeting to approve a 5.35% rate-increase request from Mill Valley Refuse Service, which provides trash, recycling and compost collection for most of Southern Marin.

Under the new rates, which take effect on July 1, Belvedere residents’ quarterly bills will rise between $8.19 and $30.96 depending on the number and size of their cans and the frequency of pickup.

Residents with a 32-gallon trash can will see their quarterly bill increase to $199.44 from $189.30, while those with 20-gallon garbage cans will see an increase to $161.37 from $153.18.
