Belvedere-Tiburon Library will commemorate 30 years of independence

The Belvedere-Tiburon Library is celebrating its 30th anniversary of independence from the county this year. The library and its governing body, the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency, convened in 1995, helping begin the process to build a new library to replace the old one on Beach Road, now part of the local post office. The library at 1501 Tiburon Blvd. opened in April 1997, and a renovation and expansion was completed in September 2022. (The Ark archives)

Thirty years after breaking free from county control, the Belvedere-Tiburon Library will celebrate its independence with two community events Sept. 5 and 7.

The anniversary celebration begins with an adult event open to the public from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 5 in the Founders Room. The evening will feature appetizers, wine, cocktails and music, along with a photo slideshow showcasing the library’s history and a talk on its beginnings.

A family-friendly celebration follows from noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 7 at the library’s main patio. The event will include kids’ entertainment, crafts, face painting, a balloon artist, magic show, bouncy house and food trucks offering tacos, Mediterranean cuisine and shaved ice.
