First major park upgrade moves ahead in Tiburon

After three years of planning and public feedback, Tiburon is putting its first major parks upgrade out to bid.
The Town Council voted unanimously at its June 17 meeting to solicit contractor bids to revitalize the Bel Aire Play Area with an accessible walking loop, two benches, a picnic area, a water fountain and native plants.
Design firm Carlile Macy expects the work to cost up to $600,491, including a 4% contingency. The council did not approve funding with its vote; the winning bid will return for formal approval.
Bidding will open by the end of the month, Public Works Engineering Manager David Eshoo said after the meeting. The council expects to review bids by the end of August, with a goal of completing improvements by year’s end.
The Bel Aire Play Area is the first of four parks projects to go out to bid. The council has authorized design work for three others: Cypress Hollow Park, Belveron Mini Park and the former sanitation ponds near McKegney Green.
