Picks of the Week: Belvedere Home Made Film Festival returns; Tiburon Native American celebration
Belvedere Home Made Film Festival returns: The third annual Belvedere Home Made Film Festival starts at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 in Belvedere Community Park with a performance by the Windsor Street Blues Band, followed by a program of 30 short films. Each film was made by locals and runs under three minutes, covering a range of interests and themes. Before the festival, Be Ready Belvedere, the city’s emergency-preparedness working group, will hold a shelter-in-place event from 5 to 6 p.m. at the park. Volunteers will hand out stay-box supplies to residents registered with AlertMarin and help others sign up. The event is free; bring low seating. bhmff.com.
Tiburon Native American celebration: Tiburon’s second annual Celebration of Native American Arts and Culture runs 1-4 p.m. Oct. 11 in Zelinsky Park. The event will feature the Sewam American Indian Dance group, led by Eddie Madril and Sara Moncada of Tiburon. The artist known as Blue will play a variety of flutes, and there will be arts vendors and food from Dramatic Events Marin’s food truck, including a bison burger. The event is hosted by the Tiburon Heritage & Arts Commission and Diversity Inclusion Task Force. The celebration comes the day before Indigenous Peoples Day, which is marked as an alternative to the federal Columbus Day holiday. The event is free. arkn.ws/NAAC.
