Flood zone officials seek greater Tiburon involvement ahead of Greenwood Cove study

Tiburon Peninsula flood officials are pressing the town of Tiburon for early involvement in an upcoming study of chronic flooding near Greenwood Cove Drive — though county staff and Southern Marin’s supervisor say the town should wait until the study yields more information starting as soon as late summer.

Marin Flood Control District Zone 4 advisory board members made the request at their April 28 meeting, which comes as the county has hired a consultant to begin reviewing existing documents and data about the flood area, at an initial cost of $50,000.

The informational review could begin as soon as this month and no later than June, pending when contract negotiations are finalized, with a broader flood evaluation to begin by this late summer or early fall after the county Board of Supervisors approves the contract.

The study will review current storm pipes and assess their capacities as originally designed, identify improvements to address flooding, determine success metrics and make recommendations.
