Juneteenth, Jewish festivals to return to Tiburon this summer

Tiburon’s annual Juneteenth and the local Chabad’s Jewish Festival will both return this summer, though the town’s annual spring celebration of Persian culture has been postponed to the fall.

The Juneteenth celebration, which marks the end of slavery in the U.S. and is funded by the Tiburon Diversity Inclusion Task Force, is tentatively planned for 3-7 p.m. June 19 or June 21 along lower Main Street.

The Jewish Festival, hosted by Chabad of Tiburon, is planned for 1-4 p.m. July 26 at Zelinsky Park.

The town-sponsored celebration of Nowruz, which was approved for April 25 at Zelinsky Park, will be moved to the fall, event organizer Argavan Nilforoush said after the meeting, citing scheduling conflicts and logistics. Rather than celebrating the Persian new year, Nilforoush said the event will center another holiday — likely Mehregan, the autumnal harvest festival —though details will be confirmed closer to the date.
