‘Men on Boats’ takes jaded look at explorers

College of Marin presents the play “Men on Boats” at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through May 17. Tiburon resident Barbara Roberts stars as John Wesley Powell, a one-armed Civil War veteran who led a team of explorers in 1869 along the Colorado River, dreaming of glory, bragging about their conquest of the land and, as happens on any long trip, getting on each others’ nerves. Then the whitewater rapids put it all to the test. The play will be at the Studio Theatre on the college’s Kentfield campus. Tickets are free, but registration is recommended in advance. 415-485-9385 or pa.marin.edu.

Family Nature Day at Audubon center

WildCare and the Richardson Bay Audubon Center will host Family Nature Day 10 a.m.-2 p.m. May 2 at the center in Tiburon. Activities include naturalist-led hikes, crafts, owl-pellet dissections, meeting animal ambassadors and bird-watching from the historic Lyford House. Other groups include Marin County Parks, Marin Humane, One Tam, International Bird Rescue, the Marine Mammal Center, Tree Frog Trek and Museum of the American Indian. The event is free. discoverwildcare.org/family-nature-day.
