The Reed Union School District is projecting a $1.2 million deficit in fiscal 2027 as it provides 3% raises to teachers and staff and plans to spend more than $1 million to close a persistent budget gap for the arts, library and technology programs partially funded by the Foundation for Reed Schools.
The district’s board of trustees voted unanimously at its June 8 meeting to approve the $34.5 million budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, which begins July 1.
The budget projects about $33 million in revenue. The district will transfer $510,000 in revenue from tenants at the district-owned Granada campus in east Corte Madera into the general fund and will transfer out $200,000 to its California Employers’ Retiree Benefit Trust, leaving the $1.2 million deficit.
While the district is projecting slight increases in its major sources of revenue, property and parcel taxes, it’s not expecting that to be enough to keep pace with its expenditures next year, forcing it to dip into its general fund to make up the difference.
