Reed schools foundation targets $2 million goal with auction, derby gala

The Foundation for Reed Schools is capping its fundraising year with the May 9 Reed Derby gala, a night of dinner and dancing to raise money for enrichment classes at the Reed Union School District’s three schools.

The event, set for 6-11 p.m. at Peacock Gap Golf Club in San Rafael, wraps the foundation’s push to meet its $2-million fundraising goal for the 2025-2026 school year, with most of that money going directly to the district to support art, music, physical education, language and library programs.

Mickey Hubbell, the foundation’s executive director, called the gala the “crown jewel” of the fundraising year, noting that it’s a chance not only to recognize the year’s work but to bring the district community together.

This year’s efforts also include an online auction, which runs through 10 p.m. May 7 and is open to both district families and the larger community. It features items ranging from beauty and fitness packages to sporting events, dining experiences and wines, Hubbell said.

Tickets for the Reed Derby, open only to district families, are $225 each, with the option to pay an additional $25 for round-trip transportation between Blackie’s Pasture and the event site.
