Survey drives Belvedere lane repairs, wins council backing

Belvedere’s historic walking lanes could soon have their first official map for residents, while a detailed survey is already steering repairs to failing stairs, missing signs and deteriorating railings on the hillside paths.
The Parks, Open Spaces and Lanes Committee presented its annual report to the City Council on Feb. 9, outlining a year of survey work that produced a comprehensive look at the city’s 29 historically mapped lanes — and a tracking tool that’s helping staff prioritize safety improvements.
Chair Charlie Harrington said the committee has focused its efforts after years of what Mayor Sally Wilkinson described as scattered priorities.
“In the past, it used to be loosey-goosey, wanting a million things,” Wilkinson said. “And this idea of staying very focused on a few projects has been really successful.”
