Tiburon flood officials have backed spending $700,000 to design a creek-restoration project aimed at reducing risks to the Bel Aire neighborhood after they trimmed the original estimate by nearly $400,000.

The Marin Flood Zone District 4 advisory board voted 3-0 July 22 to recommend the county Board of Supervisors approve a $692,971 design contract with West Sacramento-based firm CBEC Inc. for the East and West creeks project. The supervisors’ vote is tentatively set for Aug. 19.

In a separate vote, the flood board also approved a $100,000 project-management contract with Concord-based Harrison Engineering for the design work, updating an existing contract and bringing total design-related expenditures to $792,971.
