A’s claim Tiburon Little League Majors championship

The Athletics captured the Tiburon Peninsula Little League Majors-division championship June 9 at Strawberry Field after stringing together back-to-back extra-innings wins.

The semifinal round was a Bay Bridge battle in miniature, with the A’s taking on the Giants. The A’s were losing 5-1 and were down to their last strike in the top of the sixth inning when, with runners on first and third, Matt Benbow hit an RBI single to centerfield. Tyler Bell then drew a walk to load the bases for Simon Leonard, who drove a bases-clearing double to left field, tying the game at 5.
