Belvedere declares state of emergency for seawall along Beach Road

Belvedere has declared a portion of its Beach Road seawall is in a state of emergency and could collapse unless it’s fortified as soon as possible. The City Council voted unanimously at its Oct. 8 meeting to declare the emergency, which officials hope will allow the city to more quickly obtain permits and expedite construction of the project without going through the normal bidding process. “I think we’ve learned that what was a serious consideration is now a very serious concern,” City Manager Craig Middleton said. “The wall could topple. We weren’t aware that it was quite that precarious before.” (Matthew Hose photo / The Ark)
