Bel Aire fifth-grader wins county spelling bee, is heading to state championship


A Bel Aire Elementary School student won first place at the countywide spelling bee last weekend and will head to a state championship in May. Fifth-grader Theo Trono took the top prize at the Marin County Elementary Spelling Bee Championship, held Nov. 3 at the Marin Office of Education in San Rafael. He correctly spelled “chasm” to win, edging out 21 other students from across the county.
