Caprice owner threatens closure over valet dispute

Caprice owner Jerry Dal Bozzo says he’ll have to shut down the restaurant and turn it into a private home if he can’t work out a valet-parking solution with Tiburon.

He and town officials appear to agree that the deal in his permit doesn’t work in practice, as fetching cars from designated spaces in the Point Tiburon Plaza parking lot a half-mile away and returning them to the valet stand at Paradise Drive and Mar West Street can take about 10 minutes per vehicle.

Instead, valets have been using the town-owned lot housing the stand — just down from the restaurant near Elephant Rock Pier and Sanitary District No. 5 of Marin headquarters — as well as the Tiburon Railroad & Ferry Museum’s public lot in Shoreline Park, about 300 feet away. In exchange, they’re offering free valet parking to all, no restaurant purchase necessary, but the town hasn’t legalized that plan, and it’s ruffling the feathers of residents and visitors who want to preserve use of the spaces.
