Free school bus eligibility expands to account for Marin cost of living

The Yellow Bus Challenge will offer free passes to more local families next school year by nearly doubling income eligibility.

 

With the threshold change, very-low-income families of three can now earn up to $88,150 a year to qualify for a free bus pass, or $97,900 for a family of four, in the 2024-2025 school year, which begins Aug. 22.

 

The old model used federal lunch-program thresholds, which were just $45,991 for three-person households and $55,000 for four-person households.
