Lois Mae Moody passed away at 98 rather unexpectedly on Friday evening. April 17th, 2026. On her last day, she enjoyed her weekly Friday lunch with her friends at the San Francisco Yacht Club.
Lois was born in San Francisco to Irving and Adeline Moulin on February 10, 1928. She attended Lincoln High School and later graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, where she met her future husband, Bruce Moody.
Lois and Bruce married in 1953 and lived in San Francisco before moving to Belvedere in 1956. In 1959, they built their family home in Tiburon, where they spent the rest of their lives together. They raised their 3 children —Tod, Duncan and Janet — and delighted in their six grandchildren: Garrett, Suzie, James, Alex, Melissa, and Matt.
Lois had a deep love of the outdoors and enjoyed playing tennis, hunting, hiking, boating, and camping. On hikes she was known for identifying plants and animals by their Latin names, sharing her curiosity and knowledge with others. Her garden was filled with native plants that she nurtured from seeds to maturity.
She was adventurous in the kitchen and loved trying out new recipes on her guests, with much success. Lois was a talented seamstress, always choosing her favorite designers’ patterns and fine fabrics to create her elegant masterpieces.
Lois loved protecting plants and animals and had several dogs and cats, a tortoise and even a Castilian donkey. She served as a docent at the Audubon Canyon Ranch, where she taught children about egrets and other animals there.
In retirement, Lois and Bruce travelled the world from the jungles of India, Africa and the Amazon to the mountains of Peru.
Lois and Bruce were San Francisco Yacht Club members for 56 years. They loved cruising on the Contessa, a 1923 Blanchard 36 cruiser, and the Lone Ranger, a Ranger 33 sailboat, sailing with friends and family. Their adventures took them to places including the Canal du Midi, the turquoise coast of Turkey, Croatia, British Columbia, and the San Joaquin Delta.
Lois is predeceased by her husband, Bruce Moody, who died on November 17th, 2023, and her brother Don Moulin. Lois is survived by all her children, grandchildren and their partners and her sister-in-law Barbara Moulin.
