Ongoing delays likely push library reopening to June, officials say

Construction of the $17.69-million Belvedere-Tiburon Library expansion continues, as seen Jan. 12, some 10 months after the project was originally targeted for completion. Officials are now expecting to wrap up in June after citing persistent issues related to complying with changes to HVAC codes. (Elliot Karlan photo / For The Ark)

The reopening of the expanded Belvedere-Tiburon Library has been pushed to June — some 15 months after the original target date — with officials blaming the latest delay in part on ongoing issues with installing the new heating, cooling and air-conditioning system.

The library has been under construction since November 2019 and closed to patrons since March 2020 amid the pandemic. Officials originally hoped to open in March 2021 but have been forced to revise that estimate several times, most recently to February. However, at the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency board’s Jan. 10 meeting, project manager Glenn Isaacson cited May as the revised target reopening. In an email to The Ark just days later, he revised that estimate again to June

Isaacson attributed the ongoing delays to a range of factors, among them the complex installation of the HVAC system and related inspection issues.
