When the Reed Union School District Parent Teacher Association needs a volunteer, parent Jessica Etchevers is one of the first to step up.

“She is one of those people with a helium arm that constantly rises to volunteer,” says Mickey Hubbell, the district PTA president. “I have never seen her back down.”

Over the past eight years, Etchevers, 45, has held a variety of volunteer roles within the district. She currently serves as the district PTA board secretary, co-chairs the Bel Aire Elementary School lunch program and is on the staff-appreciation team at Del Mar Middle School. She’s in her ninth year as a room mom, this time for her youngest child Madeline’s third-grade class.

She also serves on the volunteer board of the Foundation for Reed Schools, which works to raise about $2 million annually to support humanities and science programs within the district.

Outside of those commitments, Etchevers co-chairs the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Foundation’s annual Teddy Bear Tea fundraiser, held in February.

“I volunteer to show my three kids the importance of giving back to the community,” says Etchevers, who lives in Paradise Cay. “It’s about helping others and building connections with friends, teachers, staff and my kids’ classmates. It allows me to use my skills to make a difference.”
