Tiburon backs stakeholder task force for Phase 2 of Caltrans bike lanes project

Tiburon officials have signaled support for a multiagency task force to gather community input on adding bike lanes to Tiburon Boulevard, while asking for more details on the group’s cost and structure before committing.

The Town Council at its Feb. 18 meeting directed staff to convey that support — along with the council’s questions — to the Marin County Department of Public Works. The county on Feb. 11 sent a letter to the town, the city of Belvedere, the Tiburon Peninsula Traffic Alliance, Marin Transit, the Transportation Authority of Marin and Caltrans’ Bay Area office, asking whether those agencies would be interested in a community task force for Phase 2 of Caltrans’ pavement project on Tiburon Boulevard, which would add bike lanes and improve transit infrastructure.

Before committing, councilmembers wanted to know the task force’s proposed composition — specifically how many members each entity would send — along with a more detailed breakdown of how a proposed $100,000-$150,000 budget for facilitator services would be allocated and how much each participant would need to contribute, assuming Caltrans does not fund the process entirely.
