Reed district wins grant to support students’ academic, emotional needs

The Reed Union School District is receiving more than $700,000 in state funding to provide supplemental instructional and social-emotional support to students after a year of disrupted learning under the COVID-19 pandemic.

The $738,000 Extended Learning Opportunities Grant is the Reed district’s slice of about $4.6 billion set aside for the grants as part of the coronavirus-relief package approved by the California legislature in March.

The money must be used for new programs or supports, as opposed to helping fund those already in place, and at a minimum needs to serve vulnerable students, including low-income students, English-language learners, students with disabilities and those achieving below grade level.
