Tiburon to rethink traffic-calming ideas for Greenwood Beach Road

Warning signs, vegetation trimming and a mountable mini-roundabout could improve safety for cars, bicycles and pedestrians along a well-trafficked stretch of Greenwood Beach Road leading to Blackie’s Pasture, according to a consultant. However, Tiburon parks officials say they will examine additional solutions after residents complained the measures addressed too short a stretch of road and that they had not had sufficient opportunity for input.

The Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission voted 4-0 at its March 17 meeting to have its subcommittee tasked with improving bicycle safety on the Old Rail Trail work with residents of Greenwood Beach Road to address some of their concerns. That includes reaching out to Marin County to collaborate on potential safety improvements for Greenwood Cove Drive, the unincorporated street off Tiburon Boulevard that turns into Greenwood Beach Road.

The commission had one vacancy at the time of the vote and now has two, as Vice Chair Mike Ghaffary stepped down after the March 17 meeting.
