Tiburon woman charged with embezzling more than $1.2 million

A Tiburon woman has been charged with embezzling more than $1.2 million from a small, family-run contracting company over several years, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.

Lilian Elizabeth Williams, 52, pleaded not guilty to three felony counts of grand theft of personal property in San Francisco Superior Court on March 17. She was released under supervision of the S.F. Pretrial Diversion Project, with bail set at $100,000. Williams was due back in court March 30, after The Ark’s press deadline.

In a complaint filed March 12, prosecutors allege Williams began working as a bookkeeper for Gorman Pipeline Inc. in 2018 and used her control over the company’s payroll system to pay herself unauthorized wages. Williams allegedly created multiple profiles in her own name and paid herself duplicate paychecks each pay period. She is also accused of creating unauthorized payroll categories such as “company loans” and various “reimbursements” to divert additional funds from the business.
