Belvedere council set to vote on seawall tax measure

The Belvedere City Council is set to decide next week which of two tax options it will place on the November 2022 ballot to fund its planned multimillion dollar seawall and levee project.

The council held a special meeting Nov. 29 to learn more about the options — a property-transfer tax or a parcel tax — ask questions of city staff and hear public feedback. City Manager Craig Middleton said the item is expected to appear on the council’s Dec. 13 meeting agenda for further discussion and a vote.

The $27.4-million design centers around short, exposed seawalls and shoreline pathways along San Rafael Avenue and Beach Road as well as flood fixes on stretches of West Shore Road.
