Lewis J. Taich
Lewis J. Taich, D.D.S., age 94, died peacefully October 22, 2018, in his Tiburon home of 62 years.
He is survived by Trudy, the love of his life and wife of 63 years, daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Chris Latimer of Mill Valley, grandsons Andrew and Brennan, son Jeffrey Taich of La Jolla, and granddaughter Harley Rose.
Lew was born March 26, 1924, in Minneapolis to Mary and Abe Taich. He graduated from University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1947, earning his D.D.S., and began his dental practice in 1948 in Minneapolis. As a naval reservist, he left his practice to serve in the Korean War.
While stationed under the Marines in Korea, he was highly decorated and received the Air Medal for volunteering courageously by helicopter under fire, retrieving and treating the wounded. He retired from the Navy as a commander in 1983.
Returning to the States after his service, he opened a 35-year-long dental practice in San Francisco, at 450 Sutter St. He met and married Trudy and in 1956 they moved to their dream home in Tiburon and started their family. Lew was the most devoted “Papa” to his three grandchildren, spending as much time as possible with them, and was an extremely social person, enjoying his lifelong friendships.
Lew was an energetic sportsman almost his entire life, golfing at The Presidio and San Geronimo and playing tennis at the Tiburon Peninsula Club.
He will be greatly missed by his family, to whom he showed his love every day of his life.
