Best place for mooring field, transient anchor-outs is off Belvedere, experts say


Marine ecologists hired to find the best location for a permanent mooring field on Richardson Bay have their top candidate: the waters off Belvedere Island. At the Sept. 12 meeting of the Richardson Bay Regional Agency board of directors, Keith Merkel of San Diego-based environmental-consulting firm Merkel & Associates Inc. said a patch of water running 600 feet off the western shore of Belvedere and extending into the center of the bay would move boats away from Sausalito and help protect environmentally sensitive eelgrass beds. A small field for transient boats could be placed in Belvedere Cove off the west shore of Corinthian Island, he said.
