An excavator carries debris to a dumpster at Mallard Pointe in Belvedere on Oct. 16. Demolition of the 22-unit Mallard Road apartment complex, which is being replaced by a 40-unit development, began along the shoreline Oct. 15 so developer Thompson Dorfman LLC may begin in-water bulkhead work in the Belvedere Lagoon. The developer must install a shoreline silt fence shown in the approved plans, or get an alternative approved, and add a second, full-depth turbidity curtain before the bulkhead work starts. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has allowed lagoon work through Oct. 22, and the developer plans to seek more time. The City Council is scheduled Nov. 9 to hear a residents’ group’s appeal of the project’s bulkhead permits.
