Tiburon’s parks commissioners have backed preliminary designs for four public spaces, though the ponds site near McKegney Green still needs more work on bike safety before their joint review with the Town Council in the coming weeks.
In separate unanimous votes across a 5½-hour meeting Feb. 23, the Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission approved early conceptual designs — with varying levels of requested modifications — for the Bel Aire play area, Belveron Mini Park, Cypress Hollow Park and the former sanitation ponds site.
The designs, released Feb. 10, advance the town’s parks master plan, which the council approved in November 2024 and adopted in January 2025.
No proposed amenity is formally approved yet. The Town Council will decide at the joint meeting whether to direct the firms to proceed to final design and construction drawings. Tentatively scheduled for March 18, the hearing could slip to April if the requested revisions take longer than expected, Public Works Engineering Manager and commission liaison David Eshoo said.
Early concepts for the four sites include basketball, beach volleyball and an outdoor lounge near McKegney Green; an updated play area at Cypress Hollow Park, to be reconsidered in favor of a more multigenerational design; nature-based features at Belveron Mini Park; and a new walking trail and seating at the Bel Aire play area.
