Gathering in solidarity

Nearly 50 people attended an Oct. 10 solidarity gathering at Fountain Plaza in support of Israel in response to the Israel-Hamas war, which was sparked by Oct. 7 attacks by terrorist group Hamas from Gaza and has led to more than 4,000 deaths on both sides. Thousands rallied the weekends of Oct. 8 and 15 in San Francisco, with other pro-Israel, pro-Palestine and broader anti-war demonstrations elsewhere across the globe. The downtown Tiburon gathering, which also recognized Palestinian civilians, was organized by Chabad of Tiburon. ‘Let’s do our part to do active goodness and kindness,’ Rabbi Levi Mintz (standing left), Chabad of Tiburon’s co-director, said after the gathering. He added that he wants people to do as many mitzvahs, or good deeds, as possible. He also said he wants Jewish people to be proud of, and ‘preserve and upkeep,’ their identity. Charitable organizations with relief efforts in Israel and Gaza include the Alliance for Middle East Peace, the Carter Center, Doctors Without Borders, the International Committee of the Red Cross, IsraAID, Save the Children, Unicef and the U.N. Relief and Workers Agency.
