Little League team honors 1950s semipro Tiburon Pelicans with new name, uniforms

Years before the then-New York Giants moved west to bring baseball to San Francisco, Tiburon Peninsula residents had their own boys of summer to root for — a semipro team that played games at Judge Field, located at what is now the tennis court and parking lot of the Tiburon Peninsula Club.
This spring, the newest generation of players is tipping their caps to the past. The Tiburon Peninsula Little League’s junior-division squad has permanently adopted the Tiburon Pelicans name, paying homage to the moniker used by Tiburon’s semiprofessional baseball club from 1950 into the early 1960s.
The Little League team of 13- and 14-year-old players has new uniforms to match the name, including jerseys that embrace the 1950s style and hats that feature a bat-wielding pelican; a limited run of caps was also made available for purchase by player family members and league fans to mark the occasion.
