Tiburon extends club's pickleball hours amid noise debate

Pickleballers will be able to hit the courts at the Tiburon Peninsula Club seven days a week after town officials OK’d expanded hours of play.
Before an audience of 40 people, the Planning Commission voted 4-1 at its March 25 meeting in favor of increasing playtime at the club. Commissioner Kathleen Defever cast the dissenting vote, saying she wanted to continue giving neighbors — many of whom have lodged ongoing complaints about the noise — a day off from hearing the sport.
Officials and members at the private Mar West Street club have said the current pickleball hours — 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays, with no play allowed on Mondays — are too limited for demand.
Under the expanded hours, courts will be open for play 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays-Saturdays between March 1 and Oct. 31 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. those days from November to February.
Play will also be allowed 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Sundays year-round, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays year-round — a one-hour reduction from the current Tuesday hours — as commissioners aimed to provide some respite to nearby residents who have opposed more play.
