Tiburon OKs 5.04% increase to garbage rates

Tiburon residents are joining those in Belvedere and Strawberry in seeing their garbage and recycling rates go up this week.

Effective July 1, Mill Valley Refuse Service rates will jump 5.04%, pushing residents’ quarterly bills up between $6.93 and $60.24, depending on the size and number of their cans and whether they live in a flat or hilly area of town.

The Town Council voted 3-0 June 21, with Holli Thier absent and one vacancy, to approve Mill Valley Refuse’s request. There was no comment from the public or council.

The company has sought rate increases in all of the Southern Marin communities it serves. Belvedere OK’d a 5.35% increase on June 12, and the Strawberry Recreation District approved a 4.63% increase the next night.
