Tiburon posts draft 20-year growth plan, impact report
The draft plan for Tiburon’s 20-year blueprint for townwide growth, along with its associated environmental report, have now been released and are posted online for public review and comment.
Coming in at a whopping 1,451 pages, the general-plan update and impact report offer critical community milestones while inching the town closer to a state-compliant housing policy.
But with mandatory public-review periods, that’s unlikely to come before the Town Council meeting of May 17.
Tiburon since Feb. 1 has been subject to the so-called “builder’s remedy,” one of the state’s penalties for jurisdictions that didn’t adopt a compliant housing element on time. In Northern California, the deadline was Jan. 31. Though no applications have been received in Tiburon, developers are currently able to submit plans for certain housing under more relaxed state rules and with limited review.
The town’s initial plan to accommodate at least 639 new housing units over the next eight years was rejected after 90-day review by the state Department of Housing and Community Development, and its second attempt is now under 60-day review. Word is due back by April 17.
