Marti (Marguerite) Porter Andrews

Born November 2, 1949 Baltimore, M.D. First moved to Tiburon in 1977. Passed away on Feb 16, 2026.

Marti lived on the Tiburon Peninsula, except for 6 years in Southern California, from 1977 until her passing in 2026.

Marti was raised in the Mt. Washington neighborhood of Baltimore and graduated high school from the private all-girls Bryn Mawr School. She attended York College (PA) and then University of Maryland. In August 1969, against the explicit direction of her father, she traveled to upstate New York to attend the now famous Woodstock Music Festival. She would go on to see many other legendary music acts of the ’60s and ’70s in person.

Marti was managing a fleet of 35 vehicles transporting disabled people around the Washington, D.C., area when in 1977 she visited California with a co-worker. She immediately made up her mind to move to Tiburon, and did so later that summer.

Around 1980, Marti began what turned out to be a 40-year career in training/adult education. This work took Marti to Korea, Singapore, Germany, and throughout the United States. In the early ’90s, with a baby and a husband, she began limiting her work to California. As her sons grew up, Marti was actively involved in the classroom as PTA president at Pierpont Elementary School in Ventura, and with lunch programs at Del Mar Middle School.

Travel, especially with her young sons, was a special passion, and by the time the boys had graduated high school they had been to every continent (except Antarctica). Marti and her husband Jay continued to travel to many different international locations after their sons were out of the house. Her favorite destinations included Sri Lanka, Tahiti, Tanzania, and Lyon, France. Marti was an accomplished sport diver, and logged over 100 dives. She especially enjoyed wreck diving and she and Jay spent their honeymoon cave diving in Mexico.

Marti’s spirit of involvement with human health and environmental concerns found an outlet in 2002 when she met Judi Shills, with whom she volunteered for the next 25 years, on several Marin based nonprofit projects including Search for the Cause, Turning Green, and Conscious Kitchen. These projects provided Marti with a way to directly contribute to her passion helping more people access healthy, organic, and non-processed foods. She cherished the work and the countless hours spent with good friends at Turning Green.

Marti is remembered by all who knew her for her spirit of enthusiasm, love of life, and her selfless attitude. She inspires us all to live life with zest, curiosity, and love for our family, friends, neighbors, and community.

Marti is survived by her husband Jay Andrews of Tiburon and son Jason Andrews of San Francisco. Another son and her grandson Hudson Jay Andrews live in Sonoma County.

Donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society
