Winter winds blast downtown

Writer's picture: Kevin HesselKevin Hessel

A winter storm toppled Tiburon’s 22-foot holiday tree at Fountain Plaza and a screening fence around the old Shark’s Deli site in downtown Tiburon on Dec. 10 as the peninsula saw sustained winds of up to 24 mph and gusts of 41 mph, according to Weather Underground data, with local sensors recording more than 2 inches of rain over the weekend. In a separate incident, Tiburon fire officials and Belvedere Police Chief Jason Wu reported a large tree fell and caused damage to a fence and garage at a vacant property on Belvedere Avenue, temporarily blocking the roadway. The forecast remains clear for the rest of the week, with sunny skies expected this weekend and the next chance of showers Dec. 29-30.
