Howard Block

Howard Marc Block, passed peacefully on Sunday, October 10, 2021, after a hard-fought battle with brain cancer. Beloved husband of Loren (Pretter) Block. Loving father of Gregory, Melissa, Emily and Erica. Son of Diane and the late Gilbert Block. Brother of Susan (Robert) Fishman and the late Steven Block. Survived by many beloved family and friends.

Howard grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. He then went on to earn a Ph.D. in Education Policy and Analysis from Stanford University. Howard spent years as an equity analyst, business owner, and consultant in the education space. He was a devoted Jew, baseball player and Steelers fan. He was a tireless community leader, nine year trustee serving on the Reed Union School District school board and many years on the board of Temple Rodef Sholom. He also coached baseball for many years in the Tiburon Peninsula Little League and at Redwood High School.

His Tiburon and Marin community meant the world to him, and he touched the lives of everyone he met and with whom he worked. He could be found regularly at Bel Aire or Del Mar schools, working out at Tiburon Peninsula Club, or walking along the bike path in Tiburon, which was one of his favorite places in the world. His proudest accomplishments were his wife and children, whom he loved dearly and whom he made the center of his world.

Contributions in Howard’s memory may be made to UCSF Brain Tumor Center, UCSF Dept. of Neuro-Oncology c/o Dr. Bush, JFCS Holocaust Center Northern California, or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
