GreenTeam member finds reward in beautifying peninsula

Most Tuesdays and Thursdays, Dan Hipple can be found getting his hands dirty with the Tiburon Peninsula GreenTeam.

For several hours each day, Hipple pulls weeds, plants wildflowers, trims bushes and clears invasive species at Blackie’s Pasture, along the Old Rail Trail and in the Tiburon Boulevard median across from the Belvedere-Tiburon Library.

Hipple, 73, has volunteered with the GreenTeam for about seven years. His work shows across the peninsula — from the butterfly garden in downtown Tiburon to the wildflowers that bloom in the meadow below the Trestle Trail to the poppies along the bike path.

That visible impact is what Hipple finds rewarding.

“It’s giving back to the community and also doing something you enjoy at the same time,” Hipple says. “How often do you get the chance to do that?”
